But there are so many gaps present for me in that statement...it leaves out the bit about the blonde curly haired toddler with big brown eyes, who followed us bigger cousins around and drove everyone mad with his favourite question...."Whyyyy?" I didn't mind answering and fielded quite a few of them, including the biggy about why little boys and little girls were different. It leaves out the kindy boy who complained about having to share his first day picture snap with his little brother. It leaves out the kid who enthusiastically banged saucepan lids with us in the kitchen to annoy his aunty, and the kid who got his first pink card (an extreme no-no at his school) for getting into a fight with another boy and winning. It leaves out the cocky teenager who thought he could do everything but whose only (as far as we know!)attempt to wag school ended in being majorly caught out by a friend of the family. The young footballer whose presence in the local side was pretty much a necessity if they wanted to win...and who would try to drink them all under the table afterwards. Then...that daughter of a friend of the parents', brunette and stunning, was suddenly THERE. All during their teenage years, they eyed each other off, then the night b4 she was due to leave for a 12 month overseas study year, he confessed. And so did she. When she got back, he was waiting.
So here's to my cousin Adam and his beautiful new wife, Sarah. The ride has been great, and we look forward to teaching YOUR kids how to bang saucepan lids!
